How to meet English speakers, Brussels/Leuven area

bzz writes in Entertainment

Hi everyone:
I'm going to move to Leuven (near Brussels) within the next month or so.
I guess I'm getting a little concerned because I haven't turned up much in my online searches that relates to socializing. I plan to learn Dutch as soon as possible, but I'd love to meet some English-speakers.
Leuven (where I'll live) is a student town and I'm a single woman in my thirties, so I'd probably be a little out of place hanging out at the local bars. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to meet people? Does anyone know whether there are many English-speakers in that area?
I'm not picky about my activities, although it would be nice to meet some people who are into hiking, cooking, and maybe taking dancing lessons.
Thanks a lot for any help!

Perhaps you could look for a club in your area. My wife joined a ladies group and it really helped her to settle in.

Join BCT, there are quite a few members in Leuven. You will find much of the English speaking population in Leuven does not have children, so this is a way of meeting those WITH children who speak English.
Go and look on mumsnet too, it's a UK based forum with quite a few members in Belgium and Netherlands who have formed an email group and FB group.

Thank you all very much! This is useful stuff. Stockeler, sorry to be dense, but what is BCT? I tried googling it, but no luck. Oscar, the links are very helpful.

Brussels Childbirth Trust which also covers areas in the rest of Belgium. There is a local group for Leuven too.You can join with an overseas address, then change to a Belgian address once you have arrived.
