meeting people in Brussels

caro.d writes in General

I will soon be moving to Brussels and wondered how easy it is to meet other people and make friends (age group mid twenties, early thirties).

I will be working in a small office and so would like to know how other people found it when they first moved to Brussels alone.

Any advice welcome

To be honest, just get a facebook account and join the numerous expats groups on facebook and network away... there's always parties, meet ups, events going on and if you bother to assist to a few as soon as you arrive, soon you'll know a bunch of people in town from which you'll form your little gang with the ones you get on better.
It is THAT simple, that's what I did, I didn't know a soul in town and within a month I knew a bunch of people, now my problem is I don't have the time or the money to assist to all the events I'm invited to, there's always something going on in Brussels, not boring at all as it is often stereotyped!
If you are a Brit this link's a start: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=14374445386

Thanks a lot for the info, it's reassuring to know that it's easy to meet people and there are lots of groups around

Darling all depends what you are up to. I have arrived in Brussels a couple of months ago I am a normal female, chilled, found a job without major problems, I also speak french and I am very friendly and open minded. In regards to people my personal opinion is that people over here are not very friendly nor warm. Unless they want sex from you, and you will find a lot of Moroccan men harrasing you down the street as well, which isn't very nice but hey nevermind just try to ignore them.
Mind you I have only been here nearly 2 months so can't have a proper opinion yet I have to wait and see whether I find some nice people.
It's a small town it should make it alright to meet people, anyway I am up to meet up if you agree.
My name is Patricia and I like to have a pint now and then, a chat and a good laugh!, no commitments cos I had enough of that, just contact me patricia.fredesjamen@gmail.comWe can have some human interaction like everyone needs cos is normal, don't understand why some people pretend that it isn't important to speak to each other.
Take care easy, everything is gonna be fine you will see :-)
Best wishes,
Trish
