The law imposes general standards, but the actual details depend on the bank.

To open a bank account you will need some form of identity, such as a residence permit, which is issued in Belgium.
If you only have an international passport, you can open an account under certain conditions.

For transfers to an account in Belgium or abroad it is best to have an IBAN and BIC code  (this is the same as the SWIFT code). These codes can be requested from the branch to which the amount is being transferred. With an IBAN and BIC code, transfers are at the national rate. Ask what this is beforehand.

For larger amounts the bank will want to know the origin of the money.
